White Elorda’s Weekly Comic Book Haul #16 – 17th April 2023.

Good afternoon Nerdy Birdies!

How are you doing today? I hope that you had a good weekend, and that the rest of the week treats you well.

I’m starting off the week with my comic book haul of everything I picked up during the last week. This is going to be all collected works/graphic novels, as there were no new individual issues released last week that I needed or wanted to pick up – that’s sure to be different this week though.

With all that being said, let’s dive right in shall we?

Batman Beyond: Neo Year

Batman Beyond: Neo Year.

I’ve been really enjoying getting back into Batman Beyond after a really long time, so I’m pretty much reading anything I can get my hands on. I’m looking forward to getting into this one, and seeing more of Terry McGinnis.

I also just really love the cover for this one.

Future State: Gotham. Volume 3: Batman at War.

Future State: Gotham. Volume 3: Batmen at War.

This is the last graphic novel in the Future State: Gotham series. I’m excited to read the conclusion, as I’ve been enjoying this series. It’s been an interesting story for Jason Todd especially.

Robin. Volume 3.

Robin. Volume 3: Secrets and Shadows.

This is another last volume in a series that I’ve enjoyed. This is the last of Damian’s solo journey on Lazarus Island that lead into the events of Lazarus Planet and Batman vs Robin.

I especially enjoy Damian and Conner’s (Hawke) friendship through this run.

Teen Titans. Volume 1.

Teen Titans. Volume 1: Full Throttle.

I’ve been wanting to read this run for a while now, and I’m excited to finally have found this.

Titans United.

Titans United.

I’ll be honest, I only want to read this to see Jason’s dynamic with thes rest of the Titans. I’m still looking for Titans Together, the other run where he joins up with them.

And that’s it for this week’s haul! Did you see anything that you’ve read? Do you have any recommendations?

For more nerdy goodness, you can check out my Nerdy Instagram! You can also follow the blog if you’re interested in getting notified whenever I post!

Until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Tim Drake: Robin #7

Tim Drake: Robin. Issue #7. Regular Cover.

I’m grateful for the change of art style with this issue, also for the adorable-ness going on between Tim and Bernard.

Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #7.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing. Issue #7. Regular Cover.

Things continue to get more interesting with this storyline. I’m also happy to see the continued appearance of Jason Todd/Red Hood.

The Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #2.

The Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent. Issue #2. Regular Cover.

I’m looking forward to this run really getting going in the Injustice universe, I’m interested to see what Tom Taylor is going to be being back in that world.

And that’s it for the individual issues, next I’ll be moving onto to the one collected work/graphic novel that I picked up this week.

DC vs Vampires. Volume 2.

DC vs Vampires. Volume #2.

The second half of the main story of DC vs Vampires (does not include the All-Out War storyline.) I’m missing some of the individual issues, so I am really excited to read how this story ends!

And that’s my haul for this week! If you’re interested in seeing more nerdy goodness from me, you can check out my Nerdy IG or my TikTok!

Something Like a Book Review – Batman Forever by Peter David

Good morning Nerdy Birdies!

How are you doing today? I hope that you get everything you need out of today!

In today’s post I’m going to be trying out a new format for book reviews, something a bit more structured and simple.

I finished Batman Forever over the weekend, so I’m going to try out this new format to talk about my thoughts on it. So let’s get into it.

Book: Batman Forver – this is a novelization of the 1995 film starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey.

Author: Peter David, based on the screenplay written by Lee Batchler, Janet Scott Batchler and Akiva Goldsman.

Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy

Page Count: 245 pages

Setting: Gotham City. This entire novel takes place in Gotham City, though the major set pieces are the Bat Cave, Claw Island, Haly’s Circus, the Ritz Gotham, and Wayne Enterprises.

Characters: Bruce Wayne/Batman: our protagonist. As Batman, he is working on the case of a mysterious new villain who has joined forces with an existing character who has a deep history with the Dark Knight. As Bruce, he is dealing with a new romantic interest and repressed memories of his parent’s deaths beginning to come to the surface and what these memories might mean.
Dick Grayson/Robin: an acrobat turned orphan, who is dealing with the deaths of his family, and the feelings of revenge that arise in the aftermath. This novel covers his beginnings as Robin.
Dr Chase Meridian: a psychiatrist who specialises in multiples personalities. She comes to Gotham to consult on Two Face. She is obsessed with Batman, though she also begins to develop an interest n Bruce.
Two-Face/Harvey Dent: One of our two antagonists. He wants revenge on Batman for betraying him, and in his mind, causing the accident that turned into the men he is today. Gotham’s former District Attorney.
The Riddler/Edward Nygma: The primary antagonist. He is obsessed with Bruce Wayne and wants revenge on him for an alleged slight against his genius. He leaves riddles for Bruce and joins forces with Two-Face in order to destroy every aspect of Bruce’s life.

Favourite Character: My favourite protagonist is Dick, I love the way his emotions, and everything he was going through are written in this novel. It gives a much better view into his mind-frame during the events of the film.

My favourite antagonist is Two-Face, I enjoy the way the novel gives the back story of his relationship with Batman to really drive home why he wants revenge so badly, and the depth of his obsession.

Least Favourite Character: I don’t actually have a least favourite character in this. They’re all pretty well written.

Favourite Scene: My favourite scene in the novel is probably the Circus scene, in which Dick becomes an orphan. I like that this scene focuses on the Flying Graysons, so we really feel the loss along with Dick. I just appreciate that this scene doesn’t focus on Bruce the way it does in the film.

Favourite Quote: “B-12,” said Two-Face.
“A hit. And my favorite vitamin, I might add.”

This is also one of my favourite quotes in the film.

Rating & Why: 4/5 – the pacing has issues sometimes, but I love the details this adds if you are a fan of the film.

Final Thoughts: I really like this novel, and I would probably read this again when I want a comfort read. I do recommend this if you are a fan of the Batman Forever film, or if you just like to consume Batman media.

And that’s it for this little book review! Did you like this format? I find that it helped keep my thoughts on track a little bit better, so I will probably stick with it.

Until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

Hello Nerdy Birdies!

How are you doing? I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! My weekend was pretty hectic, we had some friends visit from out of town! So my apologies for this post going up on a Monday for the second week in a row!

With that being said, let’s get right into the haul, shall we?

As always, I will start with the individual issues and then move onto the collected works!

Dark Knights of Steel #10.

Dark Knights of Steel. Issue #10. Regular Cover.

I adore this cover, as much as I am adoring this series!

Batman: Gotham Knights – Gilded City #6.

Batman: Gotham Knights – Gilded City. Issue #6. Regular Cover.

This is the final issue of this prequel mini-series to the video game. It’s been a pretty cool story, though I’lol admit I think the ties to the game are minimal.

Dead Boy Detectives #4.

Dead Boy Detectives. Issue #4. Regular Cover.

I really like the cover art for this one; I get a real sense of dread from it.

That’s all for the individual issues, so I’ll move on to the one collected work that I picked up this week.

Task Force Z. Volume 2.

Task Force Z. Volume 2. Hardcover.

The second volume of Jason Todd and his undead team. I’ve been waiting for this one to come out for a while now. I love Jason Todd centric stories and this one has been very enjoyable.

And that’s it for this week’s haul! Did you see anything that you’ve also been reading?

Until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

White Elorda’s Weekly Comic Book Haul #13 – 27th March 2023

Good afternoon Nerdy Birdies!

First off, my apologies for the lateness of this post! I was attending a convention over the weekend, so I was unable to get this post up before now! Next week, we will return to this haul going up on a Sunday.

Next off, how was your weekend? I hope that it was enjoyable! Mine was busy, but a lot of fun! I hope that this week shapes up to be a good one for you!

With that all being said, let’s jump right into this week’s haul! I don’t have any collected works this week, so it will only be individual issues!

Harley Quinn: Legion of Bats #6

Harley Quinn: Legion of Bats. Issue #6. Variant Cover by Can Hopp.

This is the final issue of this mini-series! I absolutely adore this cover, especially the pigeons. I hope Harley is able to convince Ivy to let them go.

Nightwing #102.

Nightwing. Issue #102. Regular Cover.

Nightwing #102.

Nightwing. Issue #102. Variant Cover by Jamal Campbell.

My collection of Jamal Campbell continues to grow with the addition of issue #102. I just love the acrobatic vibe of this cover.

Nightwing #102.

Nightwing. Issue #102. 1:25 Variant Cover by Vasco Georgiev.

Another variant cover for Nightwing. I really like the movement in this one, as well as Nightwing’s facial expression.

And that’s it for this week’s haul – not a huge one, but I’m really happy with what I picked up! There’s a couple of releases coming up in the next few weeks that I’m really excited about and I’m so looking forward to sharing them with you!

White Elorda’s Video: Journal With Me – Episode 4

Hello Nerdy Birdies!

How are you today? I hope that your Monday is going well so far!

I’ve missed creating journaling content, so I sat down this weekend and filmed a new “Journal with Me” video, so I thought I would share it here!

In this video, I create a journal spread of my recent trip to Columbus Zoo.

I hope that you enjoyed it! I’m hoping to make one of these at least once a month. The journal that I work on will vary from video to video!

Would you be interested in seeing more journal content from me? I look forward to sharing journal spreads, flip-throughs, and journal with me videos with you soon!

And that’s it for this short post.

White Elorda’s Weekly Comic Haul #12: 19th March 2023.

Good afternoon Nerdy Birdies!

How has your weekend been? Did you get everything done that you wanted, or did you just relax? I’ve spent most of this weekend cleaning and tidying up! I even sorted out my comic book collection!

Speaking of comics, it’s time for this week’s haul. I almost didn’t have one this week, as none of my current series had any new releases this week; but I picked up a couple of cool things yesterday that I wanted to share!

We’ll start with the individual issue that I picked up!

Dark Nights: Death Metal – Robin King.

Dark Nights: Death Metal – Robin King. I think this is the regular cover for this issue.

I found this at a local discount bookstore and I had to pick it up to add to my collection. I find the Robin’s to be the most fascination past of the Metal universe, plus I just really love this cover.

And keeping with the theme of Robin, I’ll move to the collected work I picked up:

Robin: 80th Anniversary

Robin: 80th Anniversary.

This is a 100-page special that was released for the 80th Anniversary of the appearance of Robin. It contains stories for Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne and Stephanie Brown.

I’ve been looking for this for a while, as this contains one of my favourite little story lines for Jason Todd, and a birthday present that he puts together for Bruce.

The only issue I have with this is that we only get one storyline for Jason, as Red Hood, where Dick and Tim both get storylines as Robin and as Nightwing/Red Robin respectively. I would have loved to see Jason get a Robin storyline as well, and maybe lose the Nightwing storyline with the Titans, but that’s just my thoughts.

Which does lead me to a question – who is your favourite Robin, if you have one? I think mine should be obvious at this point.

And that is it for this week’s haul! A little one, but I know that will change next week!

Until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

Little Red Hood Adventures: Columbus Zoo & Aquarium (12th March 2023)

Hello Nerdy Birdies!

Are you looking forward to the weekend? I know that I am, even though I only have errands planned!

Today, I’ll be sharing them photos of Little Red Hood’s adventures at Columbus Zoo. As it was a rainy day, I didn’t get as many photos of him as I usually would – but I still got some cute ones!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Here he is in front of the train tracks of the little railway that circles around a portion of the Zoo. The building behind him (which is blurry, I’m sorry) has a Moose on it.

Here is Little Red posing with a cute statue of a baby elephant. This was taken in front of the Elephant Enclosure. I love that you can see where people like to pet the statue from where it is shinier.

Here is Little Red getting his photo taken with the statue of the Stingray that is located outside of the Aquarium, I love the details of the spots on this statue.

On the same statue is this cute moray eel. This guy looks like he gets a lot of pets as well.

What big teeth you have! Little Red is thinking as he poses with this Hammerhead Shark statue. (This statue is my personal favourite in the whole Zoo.)

And the last photo I have of Little Red is with this adorable statue of a Komodo Dragon. He actually got dripped on by the rain right as I took this, but you can’t tell thanks to him helmet!

And that is it for Little Red Hood’s Adventures at Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. I could only really get the photos with the statues during this visit, but I hope to get more of him with the animals next time!

If you’re interested in seeing more of Little Red’s Adventures, you can check out my last post here; and if you’re interested in seeing more of my nerdy posts, you can check out my Instagram!

And until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

White Elorda’s Snapshots: Columbus Zoo & Aquarium – 12th March 2023 & Mini Book Loft Haul!

Good afternoon Nerdy Birdies!

How has your day been going so far?

Today I’ll be following up on my vlog post from yesterday with my favourite photos from my trip to Columbus Zoo & Aquarium on 12th March.

As a little bonus, I’ll also be including my little haul from the Book Loft of German Village, which I visited on Saturday, 11th March.

First thing is first though, and that’s the Snapshots.

All photos were taken with my iPhone 12 and edited using the VSCO app. Let’s jump right in!

Sand Cats

These cuties are Sand Cats, this is the first time I’ve actually seen their faces in person (they’re usually facing away from the glass.) It’s so adorable seeing them cuddled together like my two kitties at home!

Here’s a Brown Bear enjoying a sit down; he even smiled at the camera for me!

Not the clearest photo thanks to the glass of the tank, but here are two Florida Manatees, named Stubby (bottom) and Squirrel (top) being adorable together.

The Columbus Zoo actually runs a rehabilitation program for Manatees, so most of the Manatees you see there will be returned to the wild once they are recovered. Stubby is a permanent resident though, and acts as something of a mother figure to the Manatees that come through.

A Green Tree Python all curled up on their branch. I just love the colours of their scales.

I got this close-up shot of a Grand Cayman Blue Iguana as he was chilling at the bottom of his tank. I love their faces, especially their eyes. I find reptile eyes to be some of the prettiest in the animal kingdom.

The last photo I’m going to share with you is this adorable fellow (I can’t remember what kind of lizard they are) taking a nap. I just adore how the branch they are resting on is supporting their body. It is just so cute!

And that is it for my Columbus Zoo Snapshots! If you’re interested in checking out the zoo for yourself, you can find their website here.

Moving on to the next little section, I’m going to share the little mini book haul that I got from my visit to the Book Loft of German Village while can also be found in Columbus, OH. It’s a really cool shop if you’re a big reader – they have something for everyone!

A couple of the book I picked up, I already covered in my weekly comic book haul post on Sunday, so I won’t be repeating them here.

With that being said, let’s start with the haul!

The first book that I picked up is a Batman self-help book! It’s nothing too detailed, just some advice you could take from the Dark Knight and how he handles certain situations. I thought it was cute, and would make a nice companion to my comic book collection.

The next book I got is this really cool general knowledge book. It covers a variety of subjects, from the rock cycle to some basic self-care recipes. I was immediately drawn in by the cover, and am very glad that I decided to pick it up.

With how much I love to visit Natural History Museums, I couldn’t resist this really cool book on Paleontology. It goes over how the science and techniques have changed over the years and has some awesome illustrations.

The last book that I picked up is this one. World War 2 is one of my special interests and I’m always interested to read through books that focus on the people who live through it. This has a lot of media and propaganda that circulated in various countries during World War 2, while also focusing on the different ways that different areas were affected by the conflict.

And that is it for my little book haul. If you’re interested in learning more about the Book Loft, and it’s 32 rooms full of books, you can find their website here.

That wrap’s up today’s post, I hope that you enjoyed it!

And until next time, stay nerdy my friends!

White Elorda’s Book Corner. Book #3 of 2023: Batman Forever by Peter David.

Good evening Nerdy Birdies!

As promised, here is my second blog post of the day!

I finished The Death and Life of Superman by Roger Stern over the weekend, and decided to keep up with the super hero theme with the next book I am going to read.

So, my book #3 for 2023 is Batman Forver by Peter David.

You can see the cover below:

Book #3 of 2023.

As you could probably guess from the title and the cover image, this is the novelization of the Batman Forever film, released in 1995.

The film is one of my favourites, so I’m excited to read the novel version and see what perspectives it might add to the viewing experience. I also just enjoy reading how certain scenes from the film are written out in novel format.

Below is the blurb from the back of the book:

“In the looming shadows of Gotham City, two villainous souls devise twin schemes of revenge against the city’s dark guardian. Two-Face, disfigured by chance and fueled by vengeance, is obsessed with destroying Batman, while the Riddler, a disillusioned genius, pursues the destruction of billionaire Bruce Wayne.”

I have a couple of book reviews that I hope to get done before I finish reading this.

I’d love to hear from you guys! Do you enjoy reading the novelizations of films, or do you prefer just watching the film? Did you enjoy Batman Forever, or have you never seen it? Do you have a favourite superhero film? It can be DC or Marvel!

That’s it for this Book Corner post, I hope you enjoyed!

And until next time, stay nerdy my friends!
