Good Morning Nerdy Birdies!

How are you? How has your week been treating you so far? Anything fun planned for the weekend? Do you feel prepared for the upcoming holidays?

I’m doing quite well – I had a really relaxing holiday weekend with my family. I also got some snow, which really puts me in the winter mood.

Today’s post is my weekly round-up of new comic releases that I picked up from my local shop.

Let’s get right into it – shall we?

Single Issues

Batman. Issue #4. Cover A.

The Minotaur has entered the ring – will he turn all of Gotham City into his own private labyrinth? Or will Batman be able to stop him?

Knight Fight. Issue #2. Cover A.

Knight Fight continues. Bruce wraps up his fight with Dick Grayson and his army of Robins, before finding himself in another strange version of Gotham.

This time the Batman he faces is Jason Todd – who believes that he is Clayface!

Will Bruce be able to convince his second Robin that he really is who he says that he is?

As a little side note – thank you to Dan Mora for not making older Jason ugly.

Gotham Academy: First Year. Issue #3. Cover A.

Things seem to be going well for Olive Silverlock now that she has settled into life at Gotham Academy – she even has one of the leading parts in the school production.

She’s still having to deal with bullies – though she also has someone watching over her to keep her out of danger.

Will things keep going well – or will something come along to throw a spanner into the works?

Love this cover – just the absolute size of Jason compared to Bruce.

New Comic Day – 27th August 2025

How are you today? Has your week been going well? Any fun plans for the upcoming weekend?

I’m doing well today. I’m looking forward to the holiday weekend, though I am going to be spending most of it getting ready for my vacation.

Today’s post is my weekly round-up of new comic releases that I picked up from my local store.

Let’s get into it – shall we?

Single Issues

Immortal Legend Batman. Issue #1. Cover A.

Immortal Legend Batman is finally here! This is definitely a new direction for the character, and feels very Power Ranger-esque. I think I’m going to enjoy it based on this first issue, but I’m going to let things develop a little bit more before I really decide.

The art style is lovely though, as you can expect when Dan Mora is involved.

Justice League Unlimited. Issue #10. Cover A.

The Justice League is starting to show it’s cracks after the betrayal of Air Wave and the aftermath of We Are Yesterday.

Bruce is showing his paranoia again, which makes sense, but I hope that it doesn’t devolve too far, we’ve seen that story before, and it will be boring to see it again.

Robin & Batman: Jason Todd. Issue #3. Cover A.

Batman rushes to find Jason after his new Robin joins forces with the mysterious Wraith. Will Jason betray what Bruce has been teaching him? Will his time as Robin come to an end.

I’ll probably make a separate post discussing my thoughts on this run – because I have a number of them, so stay tuned for that.

Red Hood: The Lost Days.

Collects Red Hood: The Lost Days 1-6 and is a re-print for 2025.

New Comic Day – 11th June 2025

Today’s post is my weekly round up of new releases that I picked up from my local comic book store. This week’s haul is a little bit more robust than last week’s.

Let’s dive right into it – shall we?

Single Issues

Batman & Robin. Issue #22. Cover A.

Memento has Robin held captive; so Batman will have to turn to the world of magic and the eldritch to find his son.

It’s so good to hear Etrigan’s rhyming verse again, though I am a little confused by Jason Blood’s design.

DC vs Vampires: World War V. Issue #10. Cover A.

Robin & Batman: Jason Todd. Issue #1. Cover A.

A new story and sequel to Robin & Batman. So far I’m disappointed that this is just another “dangerous, reackless & angry Robin” story for Jason. I’m genuinely tired of that narrative for him, especially when he wasn’t like that as Robin.

It’s only a 3 part series though, so maybe something different will happen. We can only hope right?

Variant Covers

Absolute Batman. Issue #9. Variant Cover by Tirso.

Absolute Bane is here and he is a monster. I am relieved that is intelligent though, Bane stories are always so much better when he’s more than just a brute.

I’m curious to see how Venom works in the Absolute Universe, and how Bruce will handle this new foe.

Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman. Issue #1. Variant Cover by Dan Mora.

Three Jokers: Red Hood – Frostbite Edition by McFarlane Toys. W. Elorda’s Figure Collection.

Good Afternoon Nerdy Birdies!

How are you today? Can you believe that we’re already in June? 2025 is almost half way over.

In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing the latest addition to my figure collection, as well as my Red Hood collection.

Let’s dive right in – shall we?

My latest figure is this beautiful Frostbite Edition of Red Hood from Three Jokers!

This figure was created by McFarlane Toys, and is a limited run of 4250 piece.

I came across this while visiting Brave New Worlds in Old City, Philadelphia and I immediately picked him up.

The photo above is the front detail of the outer box layer, below is the back detail.

I love the back detail – this is one of my favourite covers from the Three Jokers run, and I’m weak for art of Jason wearing a domino mask beneath his Red Hood helmet.

Above is the layout of the figure fresh out of the box. I can’t really leave these figures in their boxes – they’re much more fun to display out of the box!

Straight away though, I really like the base for this figure – it’s wider than the usual circle bases and the peg sticks up a little bit further.

Jason comes with ice to cover his hands and his crowbar. The crowbar matches the regular edition of this figure, which I also have in my collection.

Here he is – out of the box and all setup!

The outer layer of his jacket is removable – though quite a hassle, so I don’t recommend it. His mask is also broken, to match the art on the back of the box. Its difficult to tell though.

I really like how well his points of articulation blend in with the rest of the figure.

And of course, I have to show him from the back as well. I’m surprised by how detailed the figure is, despite the frostbite effect.

I mentioned this above – but I love this style of base. I wish that all of McFarlane’s figures came with it. It’s much sturdier than the circular bases, and I don’t feel like the figure is going to fall over at the slightest movement of air.

Another little addition to this edition is this fun pedestal to display the collector card that comes along with the figure.

I think this is something special to go with the limited edition, but I would pick these up to display some of my other cards as well.

The photos above show the details of the collectors card that comes with most McFarlane Toy figures.

As this is a limited edition figure, the back of the card has a certificate of authenticity instead of the usual character description. Mine is #777 of 4250, which is kind of funny to me.

The art on the front of the card matches the art on the back of the box.

The last photo is everything on display together!

The Hush 2 saga continues and everything is really going to hell. Why is Jason working with Hush? Why does Edward Nygma want to help out the Bat-Family? Damian is working with Bane!?

I’ll let the story continue to evolve before I really make my thoughts know.

I am enjoying both Jason and Dick in Jim Lee’s art style though.

Justice League Unlimited. Issue #7. Cover A.

I have to catch up with the rest of the “We Are Yesterday” events before I can read this one.

Batman. Issue #159. Cover A.

The Hush Sequel continues and Red Hood makes his appearance! Is Jason working with Bruce’s former best friend – and what will he do to the Joker?

I guess we’ll find out as the story continues.

As a side note – this is more Jason Todd character whiplash – I might make a separate post going over my thoughts on it – so stay tuned!

Justice League Unlimited. Issue #6. Cover A.

We are Yesterday continues as Gorilla Grodd explains his plans, as well as the founding of Inferno – using a group of supervillains from the past. He has Martian Manhunter’s powers – will the League be able to stop them?

Manga

Batman: Justice Buster. Volume #4.

The final volume in this manga mini-series. Batman and Robin finally become a dynamic duo as Bruce faces Joe Chill.

I’ve really enjoyed this series, and definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to read a Batman story in a different format. We’ll see if it gets a sequel.

Omnibus

Nightwing: Rebirth Omnibus.

Collects Nightwing: Rebirth #1 and Nightwing #1-43.

New Comic Day – 19th February 2025

How are you today? How has the week been treating you so far? Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend?

My week has been pretty good. I attended Katsucon last week, which was a blast – thanks to some of my amazing friends. I’m getting settled back in at home now, and it’s been pretty relaxing.

Today’s post is my weekly round up of the new releases that I picked up from my local comic book store.

Let’s get right into it – shall we?

Single Issues

Batman & Robin: Year One. Issue #5. Cover A.

Bruce and Dick continue to be at odds as a gang war is being orchestrated in Gotham’s underworld.

Batman has his first face-off with Clayface, and Robin goes off on his own – can the dynamic duo learn to work as a team, before it’s too late?

Nightwing. Issue #123. Cover A.

Nightwing continues to try and come to the heart of the conspiracy working in Bludhaven. Can he convince the gangs to trust him enough to stop a war?

Miranda’s job as Mayor is under threat – what kind of deal with the devil will she make? And how will that impact Nightwing as the story progresses?

This storyline is starting to get intriguing – not that it hasn’t been from the start. I hope that we get more circus clues in the next issue, just to keep that theme going.

Titans. Issue #20. Cover A.

Raven’s powers continue to be on the fritz, and they are affecting the other Titans.

Deathstroke’s plan is starting to come together, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it will go, and how the Titans will handle it under Donna’s leadership.

I’m giving this story another chance now that I can read it all in one go. I don’t think my opinion on it is going to change too much, but I’m willing to try.

As a Red Hood fan, I really just want to see him get decent storylines again, that actually focus on him, and don’t just use his name because it makes money.

W. Elorda’s Nerdy Collections – Red Hood and Talon Mini-Figures

How have you been doing? How is your week going so far?

Can you believe that it’s February? January felt like it was never going to end, while also going too fast at the same time. Time works in funny ways doesn’t it?

In today’s post, I want to share the latest additions to my figure collections. I want to get better about posting stuff like this to the blog, so I’m starting here.

Let’s get right into it – shall we?

First off is this adorable mini-figure of Jason Todd/Red Hood. He’s wearing red domino mask and has a bag of money at his feet. He stands at about 3 inches tall.

I think he is based on Jason’s design from Red Hood and the Outlaws, but the bag of money comes from Under the Red Hood.

The other mini-figure that I picked up is of Talon. This is a depiction of Richard Grayson from the Dark Multiverse Hush comic. The Grayson of Gotham himself.

Basically what would have happened if Bruce hadn’t been around to adopt Dick.

He stands a little bit taller than Red Hood, mostly because of the posing and the rooftop scene. I love the little detail of the feather next to him.

New Comic Day – 23rd October 2024

Good Morning Nerdy Birdies!

How are you today? How has your week been going so far? Do you have anything planned for the weekend that you’re looking forward to?

I’m doing OK. My week has been so-so. I’m going to a Fall Festival tonight, and I am hoping to see some friends tomorrow night at a local market, so I’m looking forward to that. I’ve also been catching up on my backlog of single issue comics.

Today’s post is my weekly round-up of new comic releases that I picked up from my local comic shop yesterday.

Let’s get right into it, shall we?

Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Issue #18. Cover A.

Batman: A Death in the Family – Robin Lives #4

Batman: A Death in the Family – Robin Lives! Issue #4 (Final). Variant Cover by Lee Bermejo.

I will admit, I was disappointed by the end of this mini-series. I’ll just say this – with the way this ended, if this was the initial intent, Jason was better off dying back in the original Death in the Family run.

Nightwing. Issue #119. Cover A.

The Dan Watters run begins! There is definitely a tonal shift in this new run for Nightwing, but I feel like it still picks up will from the end of the Tom Taylor run.

Dexter Soy is one of my favourite comic artists, so I am really hoping for some Nightwing and Red Hood team-ups during this run.

We love a broody variant cover.

Nightwing. Issue #119. Trick or Treat Variant Cover by Kelley Jones & Jose Villarrubia.

Another Trick or Treat Variant for the collection. I love that this one plays on Dick’s former life as an acrobat.

John Constantine: Hellblazer – Dead in America #10

John Constantine: Hellblazer – Dead in America. Issue #10. Cover A.

Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent.

It feels like it took a while for this graphic novel to be released, or maybe I just missed the initial printing.

This story has Jon Kent exploring the multiverse and finding himself in the Injustice universe of all places! How will he make his way in a world that is so different from his own?
